How qualification works

Two components, one certificate

1

Component 1 — Online Course

Work through the DOT collection procedures, the CCF, the step-by-step collection, problem and observed collections, and fatal flaws. Pass the final exam.

2

Component 2 — Proficiency Demo

In a live online class with a qualified monitor, complete 5 consecutive error-free mock collections — including the required problem scenarios.

3

Get Qualified

Once both components are done, your dated DOT Collector Qualification certificate is issued. Re-qualify every 5 years (§ 40.33(f)).

Made an error (fatal flaw) that cancelled a DOT test?

If a collection mistake caused a DOT drug test to be cancelled, DOT § 40.33(e) requires error-correction training within 30 days. We offer it for $199 — purchase below to pay and schedule, or contact us to inquire further.

Regulations reminder

DOT requires specimen collectors to re-qualify every 5 years (§ 40.33(f)) — both parts of qualification: the rules & procedures training and the proficiency demonstration (5 mock collections).

The online course is self-paced and takes most people about 2.5 hours to complete.

Questions

Frequently asked

Does this training follow FMCSA guidelines?

Yes. The course is built to the U.S. DOT's 49 CFR Part 40 collection procedures and the collector-qualification requirements of § 40.33 — the federal standard every FMCSA-regulated drug & alcohol program follows to qualify urine specimen collectors. Full qualification includes the proctored proficiency demonstration (Component 2).

Why are there two components?

DOT requires both qualification knowledge training and a proficiency demonstration of 5 consecutive error-free mock collections (49 CFR § 40.33). The online course covers the knowledge; the proctored session covers the hands-on demonstration.

Can I buy just the proficiency demonstration?

Yes — the $151 option is for collectors who have already completed a procedures course. You must complete Component 1 before the live online proficiency class.

When do I get my certificate?

Your DOT Collector Qualification certificate is issued after you pass the online exam and complete your monitored mock collections — dated to the day you finish the mock collections.

How often do I re-qualify?

Every 5 years under § 40.33(f). (And if a collection error ever cancels a real test, § 40.33(e) error-correction training applies.)
